Decorating your patient waiting area can improve their mood…

A calm, relaxing reception area of a medical practice can set the mood for the entire patient visit.  Hiring an interior designer can be a great investment but with budgets being stretched thin many are left to decorate on their own.  Below are a few tips to get you started in creating an environment that is productive for staff while relaxing for patients.
  • Color:   Don’t be afraid to get creative.  Using a splash of sage green or pale sunlight yellow can brighten the room and spark creativity among your staff.  Stay away from drab colors such as grey or white.  At a minimum use neutral colors such as beige. This way you are able to accent with pops of color in your artwork and furniture.

  • Lighting:   Always take advantage of natural lighting which will create a more lively and productive environment for staff and patients.  If you do not have the ability to take advantage of windows or skylights, use full spectrum lighting. This will help give colors a more vibrant tone and reduce the stress hormone cortisol keeping people more relaxed.  Fluorescent lighting leaves a yellow-green hue which can strain the eyes.
  • Textures:  Textures of floor covering, furniture and window treatment can add creativity and sound absorption.  Be aware that some materials are porous and difficult to keep clean.  Always keep in mind the cleanliness of your patient environment, curtains and carpet may be difficult to keep clean.
  • Furniture:  Be sure the reception desk is easy to find and design your furniture layout as small conversation areas. For example, you may pair a loveseat with two cushioned chairs.  Again, keep in mind how easy the furniture is to keep clean and the comfort of the furniture.  A leather chair or couch is simple to wipe down.
  • Accessories:   The accessories are what pull the room together. You want to keep it simple and clean.  Soft artwork depicting a relaxing scene such as the beach or a serene lake set the tone for the room.  Vertical shelving for patient reading material keeps things organized and prevents magazine pile up.  If possible always place live potted plants within the receptions area.  This softens the feel of the room, helps with noise absorption and provides a natural air filter.  Great plants to use would be a peace lily, ivy or philodendron.  A well maintained aquarium can also create warmth in a room.
The waiting room creates the first impression patients will make about the medical practice.  It should be warm and inviting and exceptionally clean.  The mood that is created in the first 20 seconds will carry throughout the patient visit leaving them with a feeling of satisfaction.

School restrooms can often be overlooked and taken for granted, but they are a vital part of the educational experience. From providing a safe and comfortable space for students to take care of their hygiene needs to create a sense of community, school restrooms play an important role in the daily lives of students. In this blog post, we'll discuss the importance of school restrooms, the challenges they face, and some ways to improve them. As mentioned, school restrooms are an essential part of a student's day. Not only do they serve a practical purpose, but they also help create a sense of community. By providing a safe space for students to take care of their needs, restrooms are an important part of fostering a sense of security. Unfortunately, school restrooms are often neglected and suffer from a lack of resources and maintenance. This can lead to dirty and even dangerous restrooms that can cause health problems for students. Often times students communicate the need to wait until they get home to use the restroom. This can be because the restrooms are dirty, lack of toilet tissue or paper towel, or fixtures are broken or inoperable. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to improve school restrooms and create a safe and comfortable environment for students. One way to improve the restroom experience is to be sure the restrooms are regularly cleaned and maintained. This includes ensuring that all facilities are in working order and that any issues are addressed in a timely manner. In addition, the restrooms should be stocked with adequate supplies, such as soap and toilet paper. Ultimately, school restrooms are an important part of the educational experience and should be given the attention they deserve. By implementing these simple steps, schools can create a safe and comfortable environment for their students.
